How we check our facts
canadatest.ca is an independent study site. It isn't a government site and isn't affiliated with any government. Here's where our facts come from and how we check them.
Where our facts come from
Study content: the chapters, flashcards and practice questions are based on Discover Canada, the official study guide for the citizenship test, published by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Citizenship tools: the calculators and checkers are based on IRCC's own pages, such as the eligibility rules, the fee list and the language requirements. IRCC asks for level B1 on the French tests, and which scores reach B1 comes from each test's own score grid.
Settling-in guides: the health coverage, driver's licence, photo ID and language class guides come from official provincial and territorial pages, including the agencies that run those services, such as ICBC and RAMQ, and from IRCC's pages for federal programs such as LINC language classes.
How we check
We read each fact against its source page and note the date we checked it. Every tool shows that date and links to its sources.
We keep close to the source's wording, including its hedges. If a page says coverage may start on your first day, so do we.
Where an official page doesn't say something, we tell you so and point you to the office to ask, instead of guessing.
Rules change, and the official page is the final word. Check it before you apply, book a test or travel.
Why there are no government logos
We don't use government logos or crests, because we aren't a government site. Instead, we name each source and link to it, so you can check it yourself.
If something looks wrong
If a fact looks out of date or wrong, email support@canadatest.ca with the page and what you found.
